China Week

We had a very exciting week celebrating Chinese New Year. We have created our own Lucky red envelopes and new year cards. We have been creating our own versions of the chinese zodiac story though drama and photography. The children really enjoyed pretending to be the different animals in the story. Izn made a great Ox! We have also learnt how to write the numbers 1-10 in Chinese. We challenged ourselves and solved sums written in chinese. It was wonderful to see the children working hard to solve the problems. Some of the children even managed to work out how to write all the numbers to 100!!!
The children also learnt to count to 10 on their fingers using only one hand.
On Wednesday afternoon we did some paper crafting. The children created their own wall hangings of fish that they will be able to hang in their homes. We talked about how fish symbolise wealth.
The children had lots of fun cutting, shaping and sticking paper and card and have produced some very colourful designs. The children were really excited about using silver and gold shiny pens!
It was a wonderful day and the children all worked very hard producing great work and lots of mess!!!
We are looking forward to the rest of the week where we will be doing some Chinese folk dancing, creating our own fortune cookie captions and building our own Great Wall of China.
