Wow..what a busy week we have had this week! On Monday we started looking at a new book called Beegu. The book is about an alien who lands on earth. We will continue our work on this book next week. In Numeracy we have been learning about different units of measurement and also about how to tell the time to half past and quarter past and are beginning to learn how to tell the time to quarter to. In R.E this week we made designs for our salt dough bread and are all really looking forward to making it next week! In Geography we learnt all about China and wrote a letter to a boy in China asking him about life there.
This week we learnt the sound 'th' and next week we will be learning the sound 'ng'. The spelling homework that went out today is for the sound 'ng.'
We hope you are getting on OK with your projects. If you need any help just let us know.
Have a great weekend, see you all refreshed on Monday.

The Great Fire of London
Thank-you to all those parents who attended our class talk this morning. We hope you found it useful. If you were unable to attend but would like to discuss any information with us please feel free to pop in anytime to see one of the Year 2 team.
This week we learnt about the Great Fire of London which we all found really interesting. We listened to a story about how the fire started and how a man called Samuel Pepys kept a diary of events of the fire. In Numeracy, we have been learning how to add and subtract using a hundred square. We also started some work on partitioning which means splitting the number into tens and units. We began to think about how we can use partitioning to add two numbers together.
In Literacy, we looked at how we can use full stops and capital letters in our writing and connectives to make our sentences more interesting by adding extra information.
This week we learnt the sound 'sh'. Next week we will be learning the sound 'th'
Information about the Great Fire of London homework project will be put up on the blog shortly. The curriculum overview will also be up on the website soon under the Autumn term part. Please ask us if you need any clarification with any homework.

Welcome back!
Welcome back!
I hope you had a great Summer break and are back feeling refreshed.
Both Year 2 classes have already settled in well and are working hard.
This week in Literacy, we have been looking at the story of the Shopping basket, talking about the characters in the story, ordering the story and developing our speaking and listening through some role play. In numeracy we have been thinking about number bonds to 10 and 20 and using a 100 square to add and subtract. In PSE, we looked at the perfect school and what rules we would need for a happy school. In Science we started our topic on Electricity. Next week we are going to start our History topic, The Great Fire of London.
Please don't forget to come to our class talks on Friday 18th September at 8.30am when you will find out all the information about the year, including homework, P.E days etc and how to support your child to achieve their best.
I look forward to seeing you at the class talk on Friday, if in the meantime you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact one of the Year 2 team.
