Into The Forest

In year 2 this week we are looking at a book called Into The Forest, we read the story then in our literacy books we made a mind map about it. There was a little boy he woke up in a thunderstorm and couldn't find his dad, next day the boy was on the way to his grandmas house but he took the short way that lead him through the forest, in the end he found his dad in his grandmas house and they all had some cakes. We wrote up the story in our books and we showed them in good works.

This week we were lucky enough to have a visit from the Redbridge Road Safety Team. They spoke to us about how to cross the road safely and answered lots of our questions. We also had some Easter fun making Easter cards and eating mini eggs!

On behalf of the Year 2 team I wish everyone a happy Easter and look forward to seeing you back and feeling refreshed on Monday 19th April.

The Holy Qur'an and the religion of Islam

This term in R.E we have been looking at special Holy books. We looked at the Bible from the Christian faith, the Torah from the Jewish faith and the Qur'an from the Muslim faith. We also took a look at the Muslim prayer mat and Suleim showed us a special prayer ceremony called Takbir using the prayer mat. We also learnt about the rules for using and reading the special books. We learnt that the Torah has to be read using a special pointing stick called the Yada and that the Qur'an must be closed when you are not reading it.

Please take a look at the video below of Suleiman showing us the Takbir.

Bob's best ever friend and Gymnastics!

On Tuesday, 7 children from Years 1 and 2 took part in a gymnastics competition which was held at Redbridge sports centre. We done really well and all the children who took part had a great time. (Please see photo of us above!)

In Literacy we have been looking at the follow-up book to 'The man on the moon' called 'Bob's best ever friend.' We had news that Bob's new best friend had, had to go away to Pluto for a while so we had to make up a new best friend for him. We all really enjoyed acting out being his new best friend and then writing out descriptions of him.

In Numeracy we have been looking at collecting data using a tally chart and then turning it into information using a block chart and a bar chart. We also had a go at answering some data handling problems such as how many more people liked red than yellow, how many fewer people liked red than blue and who would find this information useful.

Click here to find a link to what your child needs to know about Data handling at this stage in the year.

We worked really hard and are looking forward to having an extra day off on Monday!

Have a nice long weekend and see you Tuesday.
