This week we have been practicing our writing to become amazing authors! We learnt lots of new important words that will help us to make our writing even better. We learnt what we needed in our sentence and why it is important to make our writing neat and interesting so that the person reading it can enjoy it.
In Numeracy we have been learning our number bonds to 10,20 and 100. We made 'Hearts in love' to help us learn our number bonds and played skittles. We had to count how many had fallen and guess how many were left standing using our number bonds to 20 to help us. We learnt that it is important to use our number bonds in sums to help us get quicker at our calculations.
As usual, homework is due in on Wednesday. If you require any clarification of homework please do not hesitate to have a chat with one of us. Parents evening is also coming up so we look forward to seeing you then too.
Have a good weekend,
Mr. Merchant and 2M

Back into the swing of things!
This week in Numeracy we learnt about dividing by grouping. First we used smarties to help us and then number beads and then number lines. We enjoyed eating the smarties after!
In Literacy we have been writing lists and instructions. We wrote a list of our favourite foods using the describing words that we knew. We learnt that when we are writing instructions we need to use 'bossy words.' These are words which we need to use to tell someone how to do something. We wrote instructions for Bob, the man on the moon on what he has to do each morning as he had an accident and had forgotten!
The homework sound that went out today is 'ow' as in cow. This homework will be due in next Wednesday. From now on we will alternate Literacy/Maths homework so Literacy will be on one week and Maths the next.
Next week we will be looking at 'high frequency words and writing sentences' in Literacy and number facts and number bonds in Numeracy.
Have a good weekend,
Mr. Merchant and 2M

Numberlines, snow and moon fun!
This week in Numeracy we have been learning how to use a numberline to help us with our sums and number problems. We have been working with some bigger numbers lately so we have had to think carefully about the best way to work things out.
On number day Mr. Merchant asked us to make up number problems for him and for our friends. We asked him our number questions in assembly and some of them were very tricky but he managed to get them all right! We also had a treasure hunt where we had to solve clues and answer maths questions to be able to find the treasure.
In Literacy we were continuing to look at the book 'The Man on the Moon' and 'Bob's best friend ever.' We wrote a character description of Bob thinking carefully about using exciting describing words.
Our focus in Literacy next week is writing 'Lists and instructions' and in Numeracy, 'Division by grouping.' The Numeracy and Literacy homework that went out today (Friday) is due in on Wednesday.
If you need any clarification on the homework tasks or any of the work that we are doing in class please feel free to speak to any of the Year 2 team.
